Although traditionally a date in the Catholic calendar, Pancake Tuesday, also known as Shrove Tuesday, has become an activity that many people participate in and thoroughly enjoy. To mark the beginning of Lent it is tradition to make pancakes by using up rich ingredients like flour, eggs, butter and milk. This is because once Lent starts you cannot eat these products and some may go off if they are left in the fridge.

Not only is learning a foreign language important for our students but also learning about the traditions and customs that come with it is fundamental.

In February the students of 1st and 2nd of Eso were asked to bring in their own pancake mix together with delicious toppings such as strawberry jam, nutella, honey etc. so they could participate in Shrove Tuesday. 

What’s better than buying delicious pancakes and eating them? Making them with your own mix and flipping them in the frying pan of course! The English teacher supplied the frying pan, the portable hob and utensils. The students were split into small groups and the preparation work was divided between them. Some had to prepare the pancake mix at home and bring it to school and some had to supply the toppings. The students took it in turns to come out in their groups and make their pancakes. They all had the chance to make one and flip it as high as they could trying

not to drop it on the floor. Luckily they were all successful. After putting on the delicious toppings the pancakes were devoured in minutes. Some students had the chance to make another one during the break with some leftover mix. It was a great success and  they really enjoyed the activity, so much so, that they asked to make them again next year!
