Cupid´s Snail Mail. Love, friendship and kindness are in the air at Colegio Nuevo Equipo.

The 14th of February is not only a day for showing someone how much you love them but it is also a day for showing them you appreciate their kindness, friendship and support in your life. This gesture can be shown towards friends, family, teachers and classmates.

Like previous years, in true Nuevo Equipo style we decided to celebrate St Valentine’s in primary and secondary, giving the students the chance to tell that special someone they are happy to have them in their lives. Even though St Valentine´s is not celebrated as much in Spain as it is in the UK and US, it is important that our students have a cultural understanding of traditions and customs in these countries.

In preparation for this day we spoke to the students in primary and in 1st to 4th of ESO about the 3 key aspects: love, friendship and kindness. The teachers explained that it could be a day for letting someone know how much they mean to them and that they are thankful for having them as a friend or as a teacher.  After this discussion the students were given time to talk about the people close to them and what they would like to tell them. They were given a template to write their message. They had to cut it out, fold it and decorate it. While this was happening our 5th grade teacher Ainhoa was busy preparing a mailbox with her class to receive all the lovely messages.

On the big day we took the mailbox to1st of Eso where we divided the cards, and our postmen and women delivered them around the school to the other classes and teachers. Once they had finished they were able to read their own cards. They were jumping with excitement and some were even quite emotional about what had been written about them.

One of our teachers Concha received 3 messages from students that she doesn’t even teach yet, which just goes to show that even with a presence in the dining room, corridors or playground you can make a special bond.
